Overview

Contab is built with a privacy-first approach. Your browsing data stays on your device by default, and you remain in full control of what is stored and shared.

What Data Is Collected

Contab stores the following information locally in your browser using Chrome’s secure storage (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync):

  • Tab titles
  • URLs
  • Tab group names

This data is used solely to restore your sessions and organize your projects. It is never transmitted externally, except as described below.

Groq API (Optional Feature)

If you choose to add a Groq API key in the extension settings:

  • Only tab titles (not URLs) are sent to Groq’s API (api.groq.com)
  • This is used to generate AI-powered summaries and suggested next steps
  • URLs and any sensitive browsing data are never shared

Using the Groq integration is completely optional. The extension works fully without it.

API Key Storage

Your Groq API key is stored securely in chrome.storage.sync, which syncs across your Chrome profile via your Google account.

  • The key is never shared with any third parties
  • It is only used to make direct requests to Groq’s API

No Analytics or Tracking

Contab does not collect:
  • Analytics data
  • Usage statistics
  • Crash reports
  • Personal information

There are no third-party trackers or tracking scripts included in the extension.

Data Deletion

You can delete all stored data at any time:

  • Open the extension settings
  • Click “Clear all history”

This will permanently remove all saved session snapshots from your browser.
